A Room for Looking grew out of my smaller Morning Find Sketches and the details I return to again and again: a comfortable chair, a stack of art books, flowers gathered into a favorite vase, and a window opening onto the landscape beyond.
Created on a larger scale, the painting brings these familiar elements together into an imagined room—one shaped as much by memory and looking as by any single place. Books by and about artists sit within reach, while the garden beyond the window seems to invite another kind of looking. It is a space for slowing down, noticing, and being surrounded by the things that inspire us.
This is a one-of-a-kind, original watercolor on 22 × 30-inch paper with deckled edges. It is signed on the front and signed and dated on the back.
